Commercial Information Circular No. 96/2009

Ecuador : Conformity Certification Requirement

The Ecuadorian National Quality Council (Consejo Nacional de la Calidad) announced that certain goods shipped to Ecuador on or after 1 December 2008 must demonstrate their compliance with Ecuadorian technical regulations, mandatory standards and/or international standards by means of a certificate of conformity. Ecuador will accept certificates of conformity issued by inspection bodies whose accreditation is recognized by the Ecuadorian Accreditation Body. Products such as apparel and textile articles, footwear, certain iron, steel and aluminum articles, certain machinery, mechanical appliances and electrical machinery and equipment, etc. are covered by the new requirement.

  2. To clarify the relevance of the new requirements to their exports to Ecuador and/or to obtain further information on the detailed requirements, traders are advised to approach their importers in Ecuador.
