Argentina : Ban on Phthalates in Toys and Childcare Articles
The Argentine Government will prohibit the use of phthalates in toys and childcare articles with effect from 11 March 2009.

The Argentine Government announced that, effective from 11 March 2009, the manufacture, import, export and sales of all toys and childcare products will be prohibited in the case of di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP), dibutyl phthalate (DBP) or benzyl butyl phthalate (BBP) in concentrations exceeding 0.1%; and in respect of toys and childcare products which children may put into their mouths, for diisononyl phthalate (DINP), diisodecyl phthalate (DIDP) or dinoctyl phthalate (DnOP) in concentrations exceeding 0.1%. Imports of toys and childcare products made of flexible materials must be accompanied by a technical report prepared by the Centre for Technological Research and Development of the Plastic Industry of Argentina to certify that relevant products do not contain any of the banned phthalates. The term "childcare product" is defined in the legislation as a product designed and intended to facilitate sleep, relaxation, hygiene and feeding of children. Goods arriving Argentina in transit to another country shall be excluded from the ban. Details of the Argentine resolutions can be retrieved from:
