US : Final Rule on Labelling Requirements for Portable Generators
The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) published in the Federal Register (FR) notice of 12 January 2007 a final rule that will require manufacturers to label portable generators with performance and technical data related to performance and safety. The final rule will take effect on 14 May 2007 and will apply to any portable generator manufactured or imported on or after that date. A copy (pdf format) of the FR notice is appended to this circular for reference.
DETAILS
- Commercial Information Circular no. 339/2006 dated 28 August 2006 reported on the CPSC's proposed rule on labelling requirements for portable generators. Having received public comments on the proposed rule, the CPSC issued the final rule on 12 January 2007, requiring manufacturers to place warning labels on all new generators and the generators' packaging. Specifications of the label are detailed in the FR notice. In particular, in response to the comments received, the CPSC has revised the definition of portable generators and has included specifications of alternate-language versions of the label, if used in addition to the prescribed English-language label, in the final rule.
