Technical Amendment to the Flammability Standards for Carpets and Rugs
Commercial Information Circular (CIC) No. 454/2006 of 15 November 2006 informed traders of a proposal by the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) to amend the flammability standards for carpets and rugs by removing the reference to the obsolete Eli Lilly Company Product No. 1588 in Catalog No. 79, 1 December 1969 as the standard ignition source, and providing a technical specification which defines the ignition source. Upon due consideration of the comments received, the CPSC announced in the Federal Register (FR) notice of 26 October 2007 the adoption of the proposed rule as final, with minor edits. The final rule took immediate effect on 26 October 2007. A
copy (pdf format) of the FR notice setting out the details of the final rule is appended to this circular for reference.
