Dear Sirs,

Commercial Information Circular No. 98/2006

US : "Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism" (C-TPAT)- Supply
Chain Security Best Practices Catalog

The US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has recently issued and uploaded onto its website a "Supply Chain Security Best Practices Catalog" (http://www.cbp.gov/linkhandler/cgov/trade/cargo_security/ctpat/
ctpat_members/ctpat_best_practices.ctt/ctpat_best_practices.pdf).

DETAILS

  1. C-TPAT is an initiative launched by CBP since November 2001 which aims at establishing a government-private sector partnership in order to strengthen overall supply chain and border security. Participation in C-TPAT is voluntary. For more information of C-TPAT, please refer to Commercial Information Circulars (CICs) No. 113/2005 dated 1 April 2005 and 32/2006 dated 19 January 2006.
  2. The Supply Chain Security Best Practices Catalog lists out examples of best practices found by CBP during validations and site visits at the existing C-TPAT participants and their business partners. It is intended to serve as a living reference document. However, one should not treat it as a master checklist of security practices that must be adopted in order to become eligible for C-TPAT benefits.
  3. The catalog will be updated periodically to reflect the best practices found by CBP. Traders are advised to visit the above-mentioned website from time to time for the up-to-date catalog or other useful information concerning C-TPAT.
