Dear Sirs,

Commercial Information Circular No. 23/00

Brazil : Regulation on Imports of Wood Packing Materials

The Trade Department received information that the Brazilian authorities have introduced a new regulation on imports of wood packing materials (WPM) from the Mainland of China, the United States, South Korea, North Korea, Japan and Hong Kong.

  1. According to information available to us, shipments originating in or transiting Hong Kong to Brazil with WPM are subject to certain treatment or documentation requirements. For details, please refer to the text of the relevant Brazilian regulation (in Portuguese) at Annex A. An unofficial English translation of the regulation is also attached at Annex B for reference purpose only.

  2. We are seeking clarification from the Brazilian authorities on how the new regulation might affect Hong Kong. The trade will be kept informed of developments.
