Dear Sirs,
Commercial Information Circular No. 180/2009
Notice to Exporters : Series 1 (USA) No. 1/2009
US : New Generic Fibre Subclass Name for Labelling Purpose
The US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) recently amended its rules and regulations under the Textile Fibre Products Identification Act to establish a new generic fibre subclass name and definition within the existing definition of "polyester" for a subclass of fibres made from poly(trimethylene terephthalate) (PTT). The amendment establishes the subclass name "triexta". With effect from 26 March 2009, "triexta" can be used as a generic name for PTT fibres for labelling purpose. A copy (pdf format) of the Federal Register notice is appended to this circular for reference.

The FTC provides several business guides on its website to keep the trade informed of the US labelling requirements (e.g. fibre content, country of origin and manufacturer/importer/dealer identity, etc.) for various textiles and clothing products. These documents can be found in the "Fact for Business" web page at FTC's website at: http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/menus/business/textile.shtm.
