Dear Sirs,
Commercial Information Circular No. 231/2003
Notice to Exporters : Series 1 (USA) No. 56/2003
USA : US Reiterates Additional Document Requirements for Textiles and Clothing Products
The US Bureau of Customs and Border Protection (CBP) (the US Customs is now part of it) published its latest directive TBT-03-027 on "Additional Document Requirements for Textiles and Textile Products" on 5 September 2003. Relevant directive can be obtained from http://www.cbp.gov/ImageCache/cgov/content/import/ textiles/tbt/tbt2003/tbt_2d03_2d027_2edoc/v1/tbt_2d03_2d027.doc
- In the directive, the CBP reiterates that it may request additional documents on specific shipments. The documents may include, but are not limited to, those required by a foreign government as a condition of release for export, such as certificate of origin or other export clearance documentation that the importer relied upon to make their country of origin claim.
- Traders may wish to note that the TBT-03-027 is not a new requirement and only reiterates the fact that the CBP can request additional documents to support an origin claim pursuant to 19 CFR 142.3(a) (5) 1.
