Hong Kong's Values of Domestic Exports by Major Principal Commodity, 2023

The top three principal commodities in terms of values of Hong Kong's domestic exports in 2023 were "miscellaneous manufactured articles"1 of HK$20.4 billion (accounting for 31.1% in share), "non-ferrous metals" of HK$10.0 billion (15.2% in share) and "metalliferous ores and metal scrap" of HK$7.7 billion (11.8% in share). When compared with 2022, the values of domestic exports of "miscellaneous manufactured articles" and "non-ferrous metals" increased by 1.5% and 72.3% respectively, whereas that of "metalliferous ores and metal scrap" decreased by 7.9%.

"Medicinal and pharmaceutical products" with domestic exports values of HK$6.7 billion (corresponding to 10.3% in share) ranked the fourth, "miscellaneous edible products and preparations"2 of HK$3.6 billion (5.4% in share) ranked the fifth and "cereals and cereal preparations" of HK$3.0 billion (4.6% in share) ranked the sixth. When compared with 2022, the values of domestic exports of "medicinal and pharmaceutical products" and "miscellaneous edible products and preparations" rose by 37.3% and 44.3% respectively, whereas that of "cereals and cereal preparations" fell by 3.0%.

The other principal commodities in 2023 included "plastics in primary forms"3 with domestic exports values of HK$2.3 billion (3.5% in share), "petroleum, petroleum products and related materials" of HK$1.4 billion (2.1% in share), "tobacco and tobacco manufactures" of HK$1.2 billion (1.8% in share), and "non-metallic mineral manufactures" of HK$1.0 billion (1.6% in share). When compared with 2022, the value of domestic exports of "plastics in primary forms", "petroleum, petroleum products and related materials" and "non-metallic mineral manufactures" were down by 45.1%, 13.0%, and 29.5% respectively while that of "tobacco and tobacco manufactures" rose by 40.7%.
