United Nations Sanctions (Iraq) Amendment Regulation 2004
This is to announce for general information that on 9 July 2004 the Government gazetted the United Nations Sanctions (Iraq) Amendment Regulation 2004 (L.N. 132 of 2004).
This Regulation, made under section 3 of the United Nations Sanctions Ordinance (Cap. 537), is to give effect to a decision of the Security Council of the United Nations that is set out in paragraph 10 of Resolution 1483 adopted by the Security Council on 22 May 2003. This Regulation amends the United Nations Sanctions (Iraq) Regulation (L.N. 420 of 1997) to lift all prohibitions related to trade with Iraq. However, the prohibitions related to the sale or supply to Iraq of arms and related material, i.e., arms and related material of all types, including all forms of conventional military equipment (including equipment for paramilitary forces) and any spare parts, components or their means of production for such equipment, save for arms and related material required by the relevant Authority stated in the aforementioned Resolution, shall continue to apply.
Warning
Contravention to the prohibitions imposed by the Regulation attracts substantial penalties which may amount in some cases to imprisonment for 7 years and/or a fine.

The prohibitions in the Regulation will apply to any person and company/registered business irrespective of and notwithstanding the possession of valid licences issued by the Director-General of Trade and Industry under the Import and Export Ordinance (Cap. 60) and its subsidiary legislation and other Enactments.
