Pacific
Economic Cooperation Hong Kong Committee Meeting Tuesday, March 25, 2003
The following is issued on behalf of the Hong Kong Committee
for Pacific Economic Cooperation:
The
33rd meeting of the Hong Kong Committee for Pacific Economic Cooperation (HKCPEC)
to be held at 11 am next Monday (March 31) will be open to members of the
public.
The
Chairman of the HKCPEC and President of the Lingnan University, Prof. Edward
Chen, will chair the meeting. It will be held at Room 1814, 18/F, Trade and
Industry Department Tower, 700 Nathan Road, Mongkok, Kowloon.
Members
of the public are welcome to attend the meeting. However, in view of limited
seating capacity at the meeting venue, admission to the meeting is on a
first-come-first-served basis.
Those
interested in attending the meeting are requested to enrol with the HKCPEC
Secretariat by noon of Friday (March 28) at the latest.

The
HKCPEC was established in March 1990 to co-ordinate Hong Kong's participation in
the Pacific Economic Cooperation Council (PECC).
The
Committee, in line with the nature of the PECC, is tripartite, comprising
members from the Government, academic and business sectors.
PECC
is a non-governmental organization set up in 1980 with the purpose of developing
closer cooperation among economies in the region in trade and economic policy
issues.
Currently,
PECC has a total of 25 member committees, of which 23 are full members
representing the economies of Australia, Brunei Darussalam; Canada; Chile;
China; Colombia; Ecuador; Hong Kong, China; Indonesia; Japan; Korea; Malaysia;
Mexico; New Zealand; the Pacific Islands Forum; Peru; the Philippines; Russia;
Singapore; Chinese Taipei; Thailand; the United States; and Viet Nam; and two
are associate members representing France (Pacific Territories) and Mongolia.
The
PECC also has two institutional members which are the Pacific Trade and
Development Conference (PAFTAD) and Pacific Basin Economic Council (PBEC).
